    Nebraska Methodist College students receive more than $19 million in financial aid each year. In the 2022-23 academic year, about 75 percent of the total student body received some form of aid. This assistance comes from a variety of sources, including Nebraska Methodist College, Methodist Hospital Foundation, federal and state governments, private foundations, lenders, employers, churches and more.

    Aid Criteria

    When you’re checking out any kind of financial aid, the first question to ask is whether or not you qualify for it. Nearly all sources of free aid (i.e., doesn’t require repayment) will specify who is eligible to receive it or by what criteria recipients will be chosen from a pool of applicants.

    Five types of eligibility criteria:

    Financial Need

    You must have a financial situation that limits your ability to pay your tuition, fees and materials in full. Need is usually determined from the results of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); however, certain organizations or agencies may consider different or additional criteria.

    Academic Merit

    Your cumulative GPA, standardized test score(s), subject-specific GPA, etc., either singly or combined, needs to meet a specific minimum set by the giver of the aid.

    Extracurricular Experience

    These criteria are about the kind and quality of your involvement in the world outside of class. They include things like community service experience, participation in student organizations, leadership roles and awards received. 

    Group Membership

    Usually this means you have to verify that you belong to a specified group. This may include your entrance status (first-generation, first-time freshman, transfer-in student), academic program, class level, religious affiliation, race, ethnicity, past honor society membership, career aspiration, residency status, employer or having a family relative already affiliated with your chosen school. 

    Combination

    Many times, two or more of the preceding criteria are considered in order to determine eligibility or select recipients.
